For many years the general purpose computing market has been dominated by x86 and ARM. However, since the invention of the microprocessor in the early 70’s, many alternatives have been tried. Experimentation, innovation, and learning live at the fringes. This talk will do a deep dive into three alternatives that were multiple standard deviations beyond the contemporary mainstream: Intel iAPX 432, Inmos Transputer, and AT&T CRISP.
